Learn more about the Dynamic42 Academy Organ-on-Chip Class

Learn the skills to integrate organ-on-chip technology into your lab work with the Dynamic42 Academy. If this resonates with you, this blog will help you to understand if our organ-on-chip course is for you. We will give you a deep dive into the reasons to attend our course, what we teach in the course, and what past participants have to say.

So let’s get started right away with…

Reasons to attend the Dynamic42 Academy organ-on-chip workshop

    • To understand if organ-on-chip offers an alternative to currently used models
    • To establish organ-on-chip models in your lab
    • Add a future-oriented skill to your methods portfolio
    • If you require human relevant data for your research
    • If you can’t or don’t want to use animal models
    • If you don’t have access to patient samples
    • You would like to provide further education to your lab team
    • To improve your preclinical data

Where does the course take place?

The Dynamic42 Academy is located in our headquarters in Jena, Germany. Jena is a university town and second-largest city in the state of Thuringia, with approximately 110,000 inhabitants. Jena is a center for innovation and education and is host to a multitude of large research institutions. Located directly at the heart of this innovation hub is our headquarters and large training facility, where we welcome our participants for the 3-day in depth training course.

What you will learn in the Dynamic42 Academy

Foremost, we aim for you to complete this course, with a sense that you can establish organ-on-chip models in your own lab. In fact, 100% of past participants have stated that they can imagine using the technique in their own lab after completing the course.

So here is what we teach:

    1. Theoretical lecture on organ-on-chip technology by our CEO Dr. Martin Raasch
    2. Sterilization and coating of biochips
    3. Seeding of cells in biochips
    4. Perfusion set-up with all necessary microfluidic parts
    5. Medium exchange and sampling of organ model
    6. Imaging of models via Immunofluorescence with different antibodies
    7. Seeding of endothelial cells in biochips
    8. Cleaning of biochip equipment
    9. Troubleshooting of experiments
    10. Medium exchange on static biochips
    11. Permeability assays

+ some excellent lunches and evening activities to mingle with other participants and our scientists and a certificate to prove your attendance.

What makes the Dynamic42 Academy class unique?

Overall, there are not many courses (in Germany anyway) delivering a comprehensive introduction to organ-on-chip technology. Certainly not with the aim to aid the participant to independently establish organ models in their own lab.

That said, should you want to compare, please take a look our previous article summarizing internationally available courses on this topic. We collected them to the best of our ability, but of course can’t guarantee that the list will be complete.

Compared to the alternatives, what makes our course special is the extensity of our hands-on training with ample time not just to try the different experimental procedures but also to get in depth feedback by our experienced scientist. Furthermore, we have large teaching facilities available just for our courses, which is pretty unique in the field.

Taken together, this explains why past participants feel that after this course they have acquired the necessary knowledge to get started even if we are not around to the help them.

That said, of course we won’t leave you alone as soon as you leave the building. For one, you will be given the detailed protocols to the methods that you were taught plus our scientist will always be happy to answer any follow-up questions you might have.

We have as much an interest in you succeeding on your organ-on-chip journey as you do!

What past participants say about the Dynamic42 Academy

We are proud to say that 97% of past participants say the academy met their expectations. Therefore, we let their feedback speak for itself.

Here is what they have to say after completing the course:
